                                                             Detention Basins

According to the US EPA, polluted runoff is the leading cause of impairment in rivers and streams in the United States. Many existing stormwater dry detention basins designed solely for stormwater runoff peak discharge magnitude abatement and detention basins designed for water quality and quantity control fail to achieve necessary levels of non-point source pollutant loading reduction. This correctable situation has necessitated the demonstration of retrofitting techniques on existing systems. Once it can be demonstrated that a retrofit technology is efficient economically and scientifically, local watershed groups, private entities, and federal, state, and local officials can pursue implementation.

                                                            Dam Inspections

Heneghan and Associates assists municipalities with dam inspection services.  The annual inspection required by IDNR is important to assure water safety and its downstream inhabitants. Heneghan's dam observation includes inspection of

  • Heavy vegetation
  • Rodent action
  • Outlet controls
  • Conditions of the outlet conduit
  • Spillway channels
  • Seepage
  • Cracks
  • Slumps
  • Settlement
  • Erosion protection and beaching/benching.

We will educate you in what to look for during a dam inspection, how to photograph certain features of a dam, and what records to keep.
