HA 2008 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED
by Cheryl A. Moody
Heneghan & Associates, P.C., is pleased to announce the recipients of our 9th annual scholarship program. Callie Rahe, Brittany Albers, Tim Homeier, and Zachary Mohr, were each presented a certificate of award and a check for $250 for their achievements. An applicant is required to be a high school senior who is enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) in one of the following higher-education programs: Engineering, Surveying, or Mathematics. The evaluation of the applicants was based on a combination of test scores, grades, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Congratulations to our winners! We appreciate your help in informing potential applicants of this scholarship opportunity.

JERSEYVILLE DIVISION WINNER

Callie Rahe, 18, spent her four high school years at Carlinville. During her high school years she was active in sports including volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Callie’s goal is to become a chemical engineer. “I decided on chemical engineering because I like math, science, and chemistry,” Rahe said. She plans to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, starting this fall and said she will probably use the scholarship award to purchase her books. GODFREY DIVISION WINNER

Timothy Homeier, 18, attended Staunton High School from his freshman through senior year. He said the best part of high school was meeting new people because he came from a parochial school. This fall he will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he will study chemical engineering. His advice to those who have not yet graduated from high school is, “Get involved in anything and everything you can. You will meet more people that way and diversify yourself.” Pictured with Tim is Tracey Kelsey, Project Manager.

CENTRALIA DIVISION WINNER

Brittany Albers, 18, spent her four high school years at Centralia. Brittany’s favorite subject is math and she is planning on becoming a high school math teacher after graduating from college. Brittany said she has been inspired by good teachers. She will begin her journey to college this fall at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Brittany expressed her sincere appreciation for the scholarship. “I plan to put it to good use for my education,” she said. Pictured with Brittany is Craig Olsen, Centralia Division Manager.

COLUMBIA DIVISION WINNER

Zach Mohr, 18, attended New Athens High School for the past 4 years. He said the best part of school was his friends and teachers who helped him along the way and who helped him to learn so much. He is looking forward to attending the School of the Ozarks in Branson, MO where he plans to pursue his degree in automotive engineering. “I’m looking forward to trying life on my own and experiencing a different environment,” Zach said. This program is a partnership between the State Treasury and your local bank making the loan decisions. Eligible uses for this short-term, low-cost financing for cash flow needs include, but are not limited to, operating costs, building maintenance/repair, vehicle/equipment purchase, infrastructure improvements, emergency repair/replacement projects, textbooks, supplies, public health and safety materials, and much more. Loans are made on an individual project basis for 3, 6, 9, or 12 month terms at below-market interest rates, (currently 4.5%). Applications can be submitted at any time throughout the year. Doug Kinzinger from Heneghan and Associates
Addresses Potential Future Engineers

Doug Kinzinger of Heneghan and Associates talking with potential future engineers.

On Friday, April 18, potential future engineers of America attending Columbia High School had the opportunity to hear all about the engineering field when Doug Kinzinger from Heneghan and Associates, P.C. made presentations on behalf of the St. Clair Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE).
ISPE annually recognizes Discover-E week which stands for Discover Engineering. Each year professional, local engineers who are also members of ISPE, volunteer their time and efforts to address students expressing an interest in the engineering field. Kinzinger, who has been employed as an engineer for more than 25 years and who is also an ISPE member, spoke to 2 separate groups of students enrolled in Mr. Young’s classes at Columbia High School.
The presentation included informing the students about the engineering field, watching a video tape, and fielding questions from the students. Several students talked about the engineering colleges they plan to attend as well as the type of engineering field they intend to study.
With offices located in Jerseyville, Godfrey, Centralia, and Columbia, Heneghan and Associates provides engineering and surveying services to a large territory.
For questions regarding the engineering field or the kinds of services provided, please call 618-281-8133.
